Geerlings Highway Design Pty Ltd
David Geerlings is the principal of Geerlings Highway Design, and an officer member of the Institute of Engineering’s Australia. Having gained extensive experience in a diverse portfolio of projects he is proficient in the use of earthworks and geometrics computer design packages including MX, 12D, PC Drain and AutoCAD.
He has been providing engineering design services to major consultants and government agencies throughout Australia for 27 years, including signature transport projects in Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane, and throughout rural Queensland.
Mining Projects
Idemitsu Australia Resources, Boggarbri mine expansion. Design review, constructability and verification.
Undertaking several feasability studies of coal mines in western Queensland
Transport Projects
Mulgrave River Bridge, Design Team Leader of a $40M road and cane rail realignment project, including substantial drainage structures.
Public Transport Infrastructure
Cairns Transit Network, Design Team Leader, for the concept design a the future busway through Cairns.
Detail design
Give your team the edge and confidence by providing that additonal experience and a keen eye for detail in design and documentation.
Highly experienced in 12D and MX, we can review your design models to reduce time in producing detail drawings.
Conceptual and planning
Having been involved in many projects over the years from the planning phase, we have seen many of these projects go forward to detail design and ultimately construction. Allowing us to be involved in the early stages brings that in depth understanding and ability to design in solutions.
Innovation and problem solving
Experience has shown that each project brings a new challenge, and the need for innovative solutions. From the small to the large projects we can help provide another set of ideas. Having a detailed understanding of the design standards helps us push the boundaries.
Design interface management
We understand the interface of the various engineering disciplines, the information required to be shared, and the importance of those details that are required in a timely manner to a bring a project together.
Design review and verification
The exposure to various projects has led us to develp a rigorous review process. This review and verification process can be tailored to suit your project needs, providing another level of confidence to your solution.
Design standards and departures
Our understanding of various design standards and the intricacies of extended design domain allows us to provide cost effective solutions by minimising the design risk. These solutions can set you apart from the others.
Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade
Is the most significant road infrastructure project in the Cairns region. 14km of freeway includes sections of four, six and eight lane cross sections. This includes 4 interchange’s to accommodate a dedicated busway with bus stations, a high speed cycle path, service roads, and rail and cane railway realignment. As design team leader providing design and project guidance to ensure all engineering aspects met design standards, his role also included developing the Level of Service analysis for the alignment, writing the design criteria report and functional specification for the road, busway, cycleway, railways and cane railway infrastructure.
Westlink M7 - Sydney
The design and construction of 40km of freeway, 15 interchanges and 105 bridges. David’s responsibilities included the concept and detail design of half diamond and full diamond interchanges, multilane intersections, freeway alignments, local roads and minor intersections. Duties also included the setting up of bridge geometry for road and pedestrian bridges for bridge design engineers and drafters.
Marble Bar to Woodie Woodie
Through Ripon Hills (WA) was for the design of 132kms of haul road, intersection design, major floodways, and associated works through difficult terrain. He has also undertaken several earthworks designs for accommodation, mineral processing sites.
Other significant projects
Coal Mine Feasability Reports- prepare a report on clean water diversion drain with a capacity of 175m3/s and cost analysis of rail loop waterway structure to provide Q100 immunity.
Graham Farmer Freeway East Parade to Great Eastern Highway - detailed design of 3.6kms of six lane freeway, side roads, three closed diamond interchanges, and 3km of dual electrified rail.
Kwinana Freeway Narrows Bridge Duplication - design involved the regrade and realignment of six lanes southbound over the existing Narrows Bridge, and the design of six new northbound lanes over the duplicated Narrows Bridge crossing the Swan River.
